Popsicle Stick Bridge
May 12, 10:30-12:30, Bridge Testing
May 14, 12:00 to my office … final report. No more than two pages in length. Everyone must turn in a report.
Final Report Format/Grading[PDF]
Team 4.2 and a half team members: Lottie Richardson, Cameron Palmer [did not attend final], James Tyhurst, Asa Carver Bridge Test
Team Building 3: Tooth Pick Bridges (one box of flat toothpicks & one tube of glue … 8″ span … must have loading zone in the center of the bridge that is at least 3″x3″ where the test weights will be placed. Loading to failure … biggest weight supported wins. Construction will need to proceed outside of class due to glue drying times. Project start on Monday, testing on Friday.
Team 1. Banana Boat 2: Nathan Beal, Tyler Kuykendall, Jean Pamphile, Josiah Helbig, Jeff Jones, Tyler Brown
Winner! Team 3. The Indecisives: Jesus Padilla, Spencer Sullivan, Tanner Harris, James Branham
Team 4. Daiquiri Dugout: Lottie Richardson, Cameron Palmer, James Tyhurst, Asa Carver
Team 5. No Names: Colum Costello, Josh Wheeler, Eric Windmon, Brian Swann
Team Building 2. Paper Airplanes … going for long distance
148″ wins longest distance, Team 1. Banana Boat 2. Nathan Beal, Tyler Kuykendall, Jean Pamphile, Josiah Helbig, Jeff Jones
117.4″ wins longest average distance, Team 2. Black Power. Antwann Taylor, Trevor Forthman, Adam Jones, Leah Crook, Toni Lunneman
Team 3. James Tyhurst, Colum Costello, Asa Carver, Josh Wheeler, Royce Duncan
Team 4. Coconut Canoe. Cameron Palmer, Jesus Padilla, Tanner Harris, James Branham, Lottie Richardson
Team 5. The Left Overs. Thomas Harris, Brian Swann, Tyler Brown, Spencer Sullivan
Team Building 1. Egg Drop
We will be dropping your egg starting with 4 feet and progressing in height until only one egg survives (or we run out of height).
Materials that can be used.
one egg and one back-up egg
one box of toothpicks
Tools that can be used.
one pair of children’s scissors
one ruler (twelve inches)
We will inspect the egg after every drop, so it must be accessible.
The banana will rot by Friday, so it can be incorporated into your design, but it must be easily included on the day of the drop.
Any damage to the egg will result in your design being rated for the previous height.
Winner! Banana Boat 2: Nathan Beal, Tyler Kuykendall, Jean Pamphile, Josiah Helbig
A parachute & cylinder design allowed Banana Boat 2 to survive the drop from the EIT/ETAS bridge. Good job!
Honorable Mention (almost survived the Bridge):
Red: Adam Jones, Tanner Harris, Trevor Forthman, Leah Crook
Banana Boat: Cameron Palmer, James Branham, Asa Carver, Jesus Padilla
The 4: Brian Swann, Jeffrey Jones, Thomas Harris, Antwann Taylor
Fifth Place: Manhattan Bridge: Royce Duncan, Tyler Brown, Spencer Sullivan
Sixth Place: Skittles: Toni Lunnemann, Littie Richardson, Colum Costello, James Tyhurst
1. Vectors … Monday, Feb. 3
2. Vectors again … Monday, Feb. 10
3. Statics … Monday, Feb. 24

Reverse Engineering Report, Assigned TBD, Due TBD [FORMAT]
Students will design a bridge using popsicle sticks, cable ties, duct tape, and string. The bridge will have to span a 5 foot span and survive Wolfgang driving across it. Support will be four cinder blocks, so approach and exit need to be included in the bridge design.
Final Exam Period: TBD.
